Track & Field Competes At Hillsdale And Oakland

OVERVIEW 

MEET: ELAINE LEIGH INVITE/ HILLSDALE OUTDOOR OPENER

LOCATION: ROCHESTER, MICH./ HILLDALE, MICH.

RECAP: Northwood track & field continued their outdoor season this weekend (April 20-21) with trips to Oakland for the Elaine Leigh Invite and Hillsdale's Outdoor Opener.

INSIDE THE MEET

ELAINE LEIGH INVITE

FOR THE MEN

  • Arthur Powell IV won the men's 200m dash, finishing in 22.73.
  • Blake Vier earned a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles, finishing in 14.68. Vier also placed second in the 200m race at 22.94. He was Northwood's best finisher in the long jump as well, with a 6.09m leap to place fourth.
  • Garrett Wolcott placed fourth amongst high jumpers, clearing his best mark of 1.75m.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Keiyera Johnson hit new PR in the 400m hurdles (1:11.59) and the long jump (4.82m). Johnson's 400m hurdle race landed her eighth in both events.
  • The Timberwolves had three other acers place in the top eight of the 400m hurdles, including Gabby Jones (fourth – 1:06.01), Jenna Gaul (sixth – 1:07.22), and Hailey Granata (seventh - 1:11.19).
  • Granata also took second overall in the javelin with a 30.44m toss.
  • Taylor Hopkins set a PR of 18:10.76 in the women's 5K. She is now eighth all-time on NU's top performer list for the 5K.
  • Nava Sanocki (1:02.46) and Molly Kitson (1:03.09) took sixth and ninth overall in the 400m.

HILLSDALE OUTDOOR OPENER 

FOR THE MEN

  • Luke Eros won the discus competition with a 45.48m toss. Eros also surpassed the 50m mark with a sixth-place finish in the hammer (50.14m).
  • Sebastian Tesch hit 64.5m with his final toss of the hammer throw competition. He took second in the hammer throw as well second in discus with a 43.79m throw.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Emily Stinson took second in shot put (12.86m), fifth in discus (36.54m), and seventh in the hammer throw (45.39m).
  • Kelsey Hansen placed third in shot (12.5m), second in discus (40.07m), fifth in the hammer throw (49.81m), and fourth in the javelin (28.67m).
