Women's Basketball Earns 69-61 Road Win Over Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up a 69-61 road win over Indianapolis Tuesday night (November 25).

Northwood is now 2-1 overall. UINDY falls to 0-3.

Northwood fell behind 3-0 early on, but that proved to be heir only deficit of the game. The Timberwolves led by as many as 11 in the first half before taking a 32-24 lead at halftime. Northwood shot 37.5 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes (12-32) while the Greyhounds finished at 32.0 percent (8-25).NU held a 24-15 edge in rebounding in the half as well.

NU extended their lead to 15 early in the second half, but Indianapolis would not go away. The Greyhounds cut the lead down to one on two separate occasions but were unable to take the lead. Leading 57-55 with less than two minutes remaining in the game, Northwood got a jumper from Jordyn Nurernberg (St. Johns, Mich.) and a 3-pointer by Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) to get the lead back up to seven with under a minute to go. The Greyhounds got no closer than five the rest of the way.

For the game, the Timberwolves finished at 41.4 percent overall from the floor (24-58). UINDY shot well in the second half to finish at 44.7 percent for the game (21-47). Northwood's 12-3 advantage in offensive rebounds proved to be a big key to the win.NU also connected on five second-half 3-pointers, compared to one for the Greyhounds.

Robak led all scorers with 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and just one turnover in 39 minutes of action. Nurenberg, Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) and Aleigha Wylie (Hemlock, Mich./Midland) all finished with nine points.

Northwood will return to action Sunday (November 30) with a game against Wisconsin-Parkside. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
