Women's Basketball Defeats Walsh 65-48

MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood University women's basketball team defeated Walsh University 65-48 in the GLIAC home opener Thursday evening (December 11).

The Timberwolves improve to 4-3 overall, 2-1 in the GLIAC with the win. The Cavaliers drop to 5-3 overall, 0-3 in the GLIAC.

NU opened the game on a 7-0 run, which proved to be too much for Walsh to recover from. Northwood led by as many as 19 in the opening period before taking a 35-24 lead into the locker room. The Timberwolves shot an astounding 61.9 percent (13-21) in the first half, along with 55.6 percent (5-9) from beyond the arc. NU held the Cavaliers to 34.8 percent (8-23) shooting. Northwood also held a 16-11 rebounding advantage to open the game.

Walsh came out of the locker room fighting, cutting the lead to eight at 16:44 (40-32). Northwood answered with a 5-0 run to reclaim a 13 point advantage into the first media timeout at 14:59. The Cavaliers wouldn't get closer than nine for the remainder of the game. Despite shooting 22.6 percent in the second half, Northwood finished the game shooting 38.5 percent from the floor.

Three Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by junior Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich. / Our Lady of the Lakes) who netted 16 points. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) ended with 15 points and three steals, while Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) added 12 points. Senior Aleigha Wylie (Hemlock, Mich. / Midland) grabbed 10 rebounds, including seven offensive, in the game.
