Women's Basketball Earns 84-60 Win At Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team pulls away with an 84-60 win at Ferris State on Thursday evening (January 22).

The Timberwolves have now won nine of the last 11 for a 12-5 overall record, 8-3 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs fall to 7-7 on the year, 5-6 in the GLIAC with the loss.

Northwood came out flat in the first 11:30 minutes, trailing 18-9 despite only shooting 2-19 from the floor. The Timberwolves finished the half shooting 36.4 percent (12-33) despite Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) recording nine straight points on two three's and a pair of three-point plays with just over three minutes to go in the half. Rivette's run ignited Northwood to out-score the Bulldogs 27-9 heading into the locker room. The Timberwolves took a 34-25 at the half.

NU didn't let up after the break, netting the first 12 of 14 points to take a 19 point lead at the first media timeout. The Timberwolves led by as many as 28 in the second half, as Ferris State was unable to get within single-figures for the entire period.

The Timberwolves finished at 45.8 percent from the floor (27-59), after shooting 57.7 percent in the second half. The Bulldogs shot 21-61 for 34.4 percent, despite completing 13-30 for 43.3 percent in the closing period. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Timberwolves (44-35) and held the advantage in the paint (32-26). Northwood connected on 12 long-range shots which is ties the school record for most three-pointers in a game.

Four Timberwolves finished in double-figures, led by Rivette who turned in a great all-around performance to lead all scorers with 21 points, to go along with eight assists, five rebounds and two blocks. Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Byron Center) added 17 points and Taylor Craymer (Grand Haven, Mich.) registered 10 off the bench. Junior Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich. / Our Lady of the Lakes) finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Robak also reached a career milestone in the contest, becoming the 14th member of the 1,000 point club at Northwood. After making a pair of free-throws to finish the game with exactly 1,000 points for her career.
