Women's Basketball Falls At Hillsdale 67-60

HILLSDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team falls at Hillsdale 67-60 on Thursday evening (February 5).

The Timberwolves are now 13-8 overall, 9-6 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale improves to 13-6 on the season, 9-6 in the GLIAC.

NU came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, holding the Chargers to just one of 12 shooting and scoring 14 points to start the game. Northwood led by as many as 10 points at the 10:01 mark in the first half before the Chargers took their first lead of the game with just under three minutes to go. The Timberwolves fought back to take to take a 30-27 advantage to the locker room.

Northwood shot 39.3 percent (11-28) from the floor and connected on five of 13 three-pointers. The Chargers shot 30.0 percent on 9-30 shooting, to go with 9-10 from the charity stripe in the opening half.

Northwood's Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich. / Lakewood) connected on a quick three-pointer to open the period but the Timberwolves would then allow Hillsdale to go on a 11-0 run to take a 38-33 lead with 14:54 to go in the game. After being tied at 50 with 8:02 to go, Hillsdale went on another 9-0 run. Northwood was able to cut the lead down to four at 64-60 with a Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) layup with 1:23 remaining in the contest. The Timberwolves would get no closer before falling 67-60.

NU shot just 29.0 percent (9-31) from the floor in the second half, while the Chargers finished shooting 12-23 for 52.2 percent.

Post play proved to be the difference for the game as Hillsdale held an advantage in the point (34-20) and out-rebounded NU 46-32. Northwood shot 20-59 from the floor good for 33.9 percent and just 61.1 percent from the free throw line (11-18). The Chargers finished at 39.6 percent (21-53) from the floor and 85.2 percent from the free throw line (23-27).

Freshman Seeley led all scorers with 17 points, while Kutch added 10 points and six rebounds. Kaitlin Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Byron Center) led the Timberwolves with eight rebounds.
