Women's Basketball Loses To Northern Michigan 65-44

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 65-44 contest to Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon (February 21).

The Timberwolves are now 17-10 on the year, 13-8 in the GLIAC. NMU improves to 17-8 overall, 15-6 in the GLIAC.

Northwood struggled to get any offense in the opening half, not scoring until the 14:44 mark to trail 7-1. The Wildcats would continue to dominate taking an 18 point lead (23-5) with 8:03 to go in the half. The Timberwolves fought back to trail 33-20 heading into the locker room. NU shot a season-low 18.5 percent (5-27) from the floor in the opening period. NMU finished the half at 42.9 percent (9-21). Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.) scored 18 of Northwood's 20 points in the first half.

While Northwood's offense wasn't falling, the Wildcats continued to capitalize on mismatches defensively throughout the game. The Timberwolves would cut the lead down to 13 in the second half but would not get any closer.

For the game, Northwood finished with a season-low field goal percentage of 25.8 percent on 17-59 shooting. The Timberwolves finished at 28.8 percent in their first meeting earlier in the year. Northern Michigan shot 47.6 percent (20-42) and 42.9 percent (6-14) from three-point range. Nurenberg came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points to go with a game-high eight rebounds. She was 11-12 from the free throw line as well.

The Timberwolves will be back home on Thursday (February 26) for Senior Day. All Northwood seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the game, which is schedule for 6 p.m.
