Women's Basketball Drops 78-57 Contest To No. 2 Lewis

RENSSELAER, IND. – The Northwood University women's basketball dropped a 78-57 contest to No. 2 Lewis Sunday afternoon (November 15).

The game was a part of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge, hosted by St. Joes. Lewis and Saginaw Valley are also taking part in the event.

Through the opening 17 minutes of the game, the two teams were locked up in a close game. Neither team led by more than three points in that stretch. Northwood held a 26-25 lead with three minutes remaining the first half when the Flyers went on a run. Lewis scored the final seven points of the half to go up 32-26 at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the key frame in the game, as Lewis broke the contest open. The Flyers shot 55 percent from the floor (11-20) while holding Northwood to a 28.6 percent clip (4-14). Lewis out-scored Northwood 28-13 in the third to lead 60-39 heading to the fourth. Both teams scored 18 points in the fourth, giving Lewis the win.

Shooting proved to be key to the contest, as the Flyers shot 47.5 percent overall (28-59) compared to the Timberwolves at 32.3 percent). Lewis also went 7-13 from 3-point range (53.8 percent). Northwood ended up 6-18 from 3-point range (33.3 percent), but NU was 2-13 at one point before finishing the game making four of their final five attempts.

Northwood will take on No. 2 Lewis Sunday afternoon (November 15). Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Leading the way for Northwood for the second straight game was junior center Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.). She finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, good for her second straight double-double to open the season. Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) added 11.

Northwood will host their home opener next Saturday (November 21) against Indianapolis. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
