Women's Basketball Drops 81-75 Contest To Findlay

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped an 81-75 contest to Findlay Saturday afternoon (December 5).

Findlay improves to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC. Northwood stands at 5-3 overall, 1-1 in the GLIAC.

Both teams came out strong offensively in the opening quarter. Findlay shot 78.6 percent (11-14) from the floor while Northwood ended up at 50.0 percent (8-16). The Oilers ended up with a 24-20 lead after.

The scoring slowed down in the second quarter as the two teams remained close. The biggest lead of the quarter was five points. A late jumper by Findlay gave the Oilers a 38-37 advantage at the break. Findlay finished the opening half 16-26 from the floor (61.5 percent) while NU ended up at 15-35 (42.9 percent). Northwood stayed close thanks to seven offensive rebounds, which allowed them finish with an 11-1 edge in second chance points in the opening 20 minutes.

Findlay made a run early in the third quarter which game them a lead that they would hold the rest of the way. The Oilers went on a 14-2 spurt that put Findlay up 52-42. The advantage was 58-50 at the end of the third.

Northwood cut the Findlay lead down to three on five separate occasions in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.  The Oilers led 76-73 with less than a minute to go when UF connected on a 3-pointer to put the game away.

For the game, Findlay finished at 54.9 percent from the floor (28-61) compared to Northwood at 40.3 percent (27-67). NU used a 16-7 edge in offensive rebounds to end up with a 22-7 edge in second chance points.

Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.) picked up her seventh double-double of the season to lead the way for Northwood, totaling 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lindsay Orwat (Grand Ledge, Mich.) scored 12 points in 10 minutes off the bench, while Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich./Lakeview) added 10 points.

Northwood will travel to Walsh next Thursday (December 10). Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
