Women's Basketball Earns 69-51 Road Win At Malone

CANTON, OHIO – The Northwood University women's basketball team earned a 69-51 road win over Malone Saturday afternoon (December 12).

Northwood is now 6-4 overall, 2-2 in the GLIAC. Malone falls to 3-5 overall, 1-3 in the GLIAC.

The Pioneers connected on a 3-pointer on their first possession of the game, but that would prove to be their lone field goal of the first quarter. Northwood struggled on offense as well in the frame, going 5-19 from the floor (26.3 percent) but still managed to take a 12-5 lead after one.

Northwood took control of the game in the second quarter, erupting for 30 points while shooting 58 percent from the floor (11-19). Malone cut the lead to 14-9 with just under eight minutes remaining in the quarter only to see the Timberwolves score 28 of the final 38 points of the half to earn a 42-19 lead at the break.

NU extended their lead to as many as 30 early in the third quarter and was never really challenged the rest of the way. The final margin of 18 point was the closest that Malone was since the score was 31-14 in the second quarter.

For the game, Northwood made 15 more field goals than Malone (27-12) and eight more 3-pointers (11-3). Overall, NU finished at 40.9 percent (27-66) and 42.3 percent from 3-point range (11-26). The Pioneers ended up at 28.6 percent overall (12-42) and 27.3 percent from the 3-point line (3-11).

Northwood was led once again by junior center Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.), who registered her eighth double-double of the season. She finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) and Lindsay Orwat (Grand Ledge, Mich.) added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Northwood is now off for the rest of 2015. The Timberwolves will return to action January 2 for a game against Ashland. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
