Women's Basketball Defeats Lake Erie 87-60

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up an 87-60 win over Lake Erie Sunday afternoon (January 3).

Northwood improves to 7-5 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie falls to 4-8 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.

Northwood took control of the game in the second quarter. After the two teams were tied 18-18 after one, the Timberwolves out-scored the Storm 30-6 in the second quarter. NU shot 68.8 percent in the quarter (11-16) and 83.3 percent from 3-point range (5-6). Meanwhile, Lake Erie made just 2-22 attempts (9.1 percent) and 1-9 from 3-point range (11.1 percent). That gave Northwood a 48-24 lead at halftime.

The Timberwolves maintained their advantage throughout the second half. NU led by as many as 32 points after the break and did not allow the Storm to get any closer than 22 points.

For the game, Northwood shot 49.3 percent from the floor (34-69) and matched their season-high with 11 3-point field goals. Lake Erie ended up at 30.8 percent overall (20-65) and 23.8 percent from 3-point range (5-21). The Timberwolves out-rebounded Lake Erie 48-35 and finished with a 17-2 edge in fast break points.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) with 20 points. Lindsay Orwat (Grand Ledge, Mich.) came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points, while Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) added 11. Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.) registered her 10 double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Roe (Portland, MIch.) had a career-high nine assists to go along with six points, six rebounds and three steals.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin Thursday night (January 7). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
