Women's Basketball Loses At Ohio Dominican 71-59

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 71-59 contest at Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (January 9).

Northwood falls to 8-6 overall, 4-4 in the GLIAC. Ohio Dominican improves to 10-4 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers used the foul line to take the early advantage in the first quarter. ODU out-scored Northwood 8-2 in the first from the foul line, allowing the Panthers to lead 19-12 after one quarter. The Timberwolves also committed seven turnovers in the opening quarter.

ODU extended their lead in the second quarter, going up by as many as 15 before settling for a 40-27 lead at the break. The Panthers out-scored Northwood 12-0 from 3-point range in the opening half, as the Timberwolves missed all nine of their attempts.

Northwood was out-scored 20-11 in the third to fall behind 60-38 heading to the fourth quarter. The 22-point deficit was the biggest of the game for the Timberwolves. NU fought back in the final frame, out-scoring ODU 21-11. The final margin of 12 points was as close as the Timberwolves had been since early in the third quarter.

For the game, Northwood's struggles from the 3-point line proved to be the biggest key to the contest. The Timberwolves entered the game shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc, but made just one of 21 attempts for the game (4.8 percent). Overall, Northwood ended up at 36.1 percent (22-61), while ODU shot 42.6 percent (26-61). Both team struggled to take care of the ball – Ohio Dominican finished with 25 turnovers while Northwood had 21.

Northwood was led once again by Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.), who finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) added 16 points.

The Timberwolves will travel to Hillsdale Thursday night (January 14). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
