Women's Basketball Earns 75-67 Road Win Over Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up a wild 75-67 win over Hillsdale Thursday night (January 14).

Northwood is now 9-6 overall, 5-4 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale falls to 7-6 overall, 4-5 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves took a 28-24 lead at halftime after both offenses struggled in the opening 20 minutes. Northwood shot just 25.7 percent from the floor (9-35) and 11.1 percent from 3-point range (1-9), while Hillsdale finished at 30.3 percent overall (10-33) and 8.3 percent from 3-point range (1-12).

Northwood dominated the third quarter, out-scoring Hillsdale 28-12 in the frame. The Timberwolves, who had made just 2-30 3-point attempts in their last three halves of play, connected on 4-8 from beyond the arc. That allowed Northwood to open up a 56-36 heading to the fourth quarter.

NU opened up a 23 point lead at 62-39 with less than nine minutes to go when Hillsdale went on a big run to get back into the game. The Chargers out-scored Northwood 25-2 over the next seven minutes plus to tie the game 64-64 with 2:26 remaining. In that stretch, the Chargers made four 3-pointers and NU committed nine turnovers.

Down the stretch, Northwood made the plays that earned the Timberwolves a victory. NU out-scored HC 11-3 over the final 1:26 of the game, all of which were scored by senior guard Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) and junior center Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.).

For the game, Northwood shot 37.9 percent overall (25-66). NU went 7-21 from 3-point range (33.3 percent) and 18-26 from the foul line (69.2 percent). Hillsdale finished at 38.5 percent (25-65) overall, 28.6 percent from 3-point range (6-21) and 55.0 percent from the foul line (11-20). Both teams struggled to take care of the ball – NU had 22 turnover while HC had 21.

Robak and Nurenberg led the way for Northwood. Robak matched her season-high with 25 points. She went 9-17 from the floor and 5-6 from the foul line while added six rebounds and three assists. Nurenberg registered her 11^th double-double of the season, totaling 20 points while grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds. Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) scored all 11 of her points in the second half

Northwood will host rival Saginaw Valley State Saturday night (January 16). Game time is set for 4 p.m.
