Women's Basketball Defeats Ferris State 62-57

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up a 62-57 win over Ferris State Thursday night (January 21).

Northwood is now 10-7 overall, 6-5 in the GLIAC. Ferris State falls to 3-14 overall, 3-8 in the GLIAC.

After falling behind 14-11 after the opening quarter, Northwood out-scored FSU 20-11 in the second to open up a 31-25 lead at the break.  The Timberwolves finished the opening half at 42.0 percent (13-31) while Ferris State finished at 38.5 percent (10-26).

Northwood led by 13 late in the third quarter, but Ferris State rallied back in the fourth. The Bulldogs scored 13 of the first 14 points in the fourth quarter to put FSU on top 52-49. Ferris State led 57-53 with 1:40 remaining in the game when the Timberwolves finished strong. NU scored the final nine points of the game, keyed by a 3-pointer by Delaney Kenny (Clarkston, Mich.) that tied the game at 57 with less than a minutes to go.  Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) then hit a triple on the next possession to put NU on top for good.

For the game, Northwood finished at 38.7 percent (24-62) compared to Ferris State at 41.4 percent (24-58).  NU connected on seven 3-pointers, compared to two for the Bulldogs.

Robak shared game-high honors with 24 points, going 9-18 from the floor and 4-8 from 3-point range. Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.) finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Hannah Orwat (Grand Ledge, Mich.).

Northwood will travel to Grand Valley State Saturday night (January 23). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
