Women's Basketball Earns 76-46 Win Over Northern Michigan

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up a 76-46 win over Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (January 30).

Northwood is now 11-9 overall and 7-7 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan falls to 8-12 overall, 7-7 in conference play.

After struggling in a loss Thursday night against Michigan Tech, the Timberwolves came out determined against NMU. NU hit 60.0 percent of their shots from the field in the opening quarter (9-15), allowing the Timberwolves to go up by as many as 13 before taking a 24-15 lead after one.

The offenses slowed down early in the second quarter. Northern Michigan gut the lead down to six, but the Timberwolves finished the quarter strong, using a 12-2 run to take a 41-22 lead at the half. NMU went just 1-9 from the floor in the quarter.

Northwood's maintained control in the second half, going by 30 in the third quarter and by as many as 32 in the fourth. NU out-scored the Wildcats 35-24.

For the game, Northwood shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-61) to Northern Michigan at 32.6 percent (14-43).  Turnovers proved to be the big stat of the game – NMU had 24 turnovers to 10 for Northwood. Northwood finished the game with a 24-0 edge in points off turnovers.

Northwood was led by senior guard Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes), who put up 20 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.) finished with 14 points and five rebounds.  Carly D'Almeida (Harrison Twp., Mich./Macomb CC) had her best game at Northwood, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds

The Timberwolves will return to action Monday night against Lake Superior State at 6 p.m.
