Women's Basketball Defeats Hillsdale 92-64

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's basketball team picked up a 92-64 win over Hillsdale Thursday night (February 4).

Northwood has now won three straight games to improve to 13-9 overall, 9-7 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale falls to 9-11 overall, 6-10 in the GLIAC.

Hillsdale got off to a fast start in the opening quarter, leading 18-9 after one. The Chargers extended their lead to as many as 12 early in the second quarter, but it was all Northwood the rest of the half. The Timberwolves finished the opening half on a 28-8 run to earn a 40-32 lead at the break. Both teams shot well from the floor – Northwood ended up at 59.1 percent in the half (13-22) compared to Hillsdale at 50.0 percent (14-28).

The Timberwolves continued to pour it on in the third quarter. NU out-scored HC 28-13 in the third quarter, opening up their biggest lead of the game at 68-45 at the end of the third quarter.

Northwood maintained control in the fourth quarter. Their 28-point advantage at the end of the game was their biggest of the contest.

Overall, Northwood finished with season-highs in points (92) and shooting percentage (32-58 – 55.2 percent). Northwood also matched their season-high with 11 3-point field goals, going 11-20 overall (55.0 percent). Hillsdale ended up at 40.0 percent overall (24-60) and 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

Leading the way for Northwood was Maddy Seeley (Alma, Mich.) and Jordyn Nurenberg, who each finished with 24 points. Seeley had 17 points in the second quarter, while Nurenberg scored 18 of her career-high total in the second half. Ashley Campbell (Oregon, Ind./Oregon-Davis) had a career-high 10 assists off the bench. Delaney Kenny (Clarkston, Mich.) finished with seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Timberwolves.

Northwood will travel to rival Saginaw Valley State Saturday night (February 6). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
