Women's Basketball Earns Comeback 83-75 Win At Wisconsin-Parkside

RECAP: Northwood rallies from a 15-point deficit to earn an 83-75 win over Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday afternoon (December 31).

FIRST QUARTER

• Northwood led 3-2 early, but that would prove to be their last lead until the fourth quarter.
• The Rangers eventually led 23-17 after one.
• The Timberwolves ended the quarter shooting 45.5 percent overall (5-11), while UWP ended up at 42.9 percent (6-14).
• Both teams got the foul line 10 times in the first – UWP went 8-10 while NU finished at 6-10. 

SECOND QUARTER

• Both teams' offenses executed well in the second quarter, but it was Wisconsin-Parkside who had the better of the play.
• The Rangers led by as many as 15 in the quarter before eventually leading 49-38 at the break.
• Wisconsin-Parkside shot 60.0 percent overall (9-15), 50.0 percent from 3-point range (4-8) and 100 percent from the foul line (4-4).
• Northwood's numbers were also strong: 53.8 percent overall (7-13), 66.7 percent from 3-point range (4-6) and 75.0 percent from the foul line (3-4).

THIRD QUARTER

• After a high-scoring second quarter, the third quarter started slowly – 3:30 into the second half, the two teams combined for just five points.
• The Timberwolves, a team that plays almost exclusively man-to-man defense, made the switch to a 2-3 zone in the third quarter. That switch was a big part of Northwood getting back into the game.
• Northwood trailed by 14 early in the third quarter (53-39) before NU scored 14 of the final 17 points of the frame to send the game to the fourth with Wisconsin-Parkside leading 56-53.
• Both teams struggled from the floor in the third – Northwood finished at 26.3 percent overall (5-19) and missed all seven of their 3-point shots. Wisconsin-Parkside ended the third at 21.4 percent (3-14) overall and 14.3 percent from 3-point range.
• A big part of NU's advantage in the third quarter came in rebounding, where the Timberwolves held an 18-6 edge on the glass.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Northwood took their first lead since 3-2 at 57-56 with 9:28 remaining in the game.
• The Timberwolves went on top for good at 60-59. Their eight-point advantage at the end of the game was the largest for Northwood in the game.
• After struggling in the third quarter, the Northwood put up 30 points in the fourth quarter thanks to shooting 70.0 percent overall (7-10) and 93.3 percent from the foul line (14-15). The Timberwolves also went 2-3 from beyond the arc.
• UWP ended up at 42.1 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter (8-19) and 25.0 percent from 3-point range (2-8).
• Northwood continued to control the glass in the fourth quarter, out-rebounding the Rangers 10-3. That gave Northwood a 28-9 edge in rebounds for the second half.

• The Timberwolves 8-3 record is their best after 11 games since 2008-09, when NU started the year 9-2. That team finished with a school-record 21 victories and reached the NCAA Tournament.
