Women's Basketball Falls To Saginaw Valley 76-72

RECAP: Women's Basketball rallies from 18-point first half deficit before falling to Saginaw Valley 76-72 Tuesday night (January 26).
FIRST QUARTER
- Saginaw Valley took advantage of an ice-cold Northwood offense in the opening quarter.
- After Northwood scored on their opening possession, the Cardinals put up the next 10 points and 17 of the next 20 overall to lead 17-5 late in the quarter.
- The Cardinals lead stood at 22-9 after the first.
- Saginaw Valley had a strong opening quarter shooting, going 7-14 overall (50.0 percent) and 4-9 from 3-point range (44.4 percent).
- Northwood was just 3-17 from the floor (17.6 percent) while missing all eight of their 3-point attempts
SECOND QUARTER
- Saginaw Valley pushed their lead to 18 on two separate occasions in the second before Northwood started their comeback.
- The Timberwolves scored 19 of the next 25 points in the quarter to cut the advantage to 35-30.
- SV scored the final basket in the half to make the score 37-30 at the break.
- Northwood was much better offensively in the second, going 8-17 overall (47.1 percent) and 1-3 from beyond the 3-point arc (33.3 percent)
- The Cardinals ended the second at 42.9 percent overall (6-14) and 1-6 from three (16.7 percent).
THIRD QUARTER
- NU continued their momentum from the end of the second quarter into the third, starting the half on an 11-2 run to go up 41-39.
- SVSU responded immediately, posting a 16-2 burst of their own to lead 55-43.
- Saginaw Valley eventually led 62-49 heading to the final quarter.
- Both teams had strong shooting third quarter – the Cardinals were 10-19 overall (52.6 percent) and 2-8 from 3-point range (25.0 percent).
- Northwood was 8-12 overall (66.7 percent) but continued to struggle from 3-point range, missing both of their attempts.
FOURTH QUARTER
- SV led 65-51 with eight minutes remaining when Northwood made another run to get back into the game.
- NU scored 15 of the next 19 points to make it a 69-66 game with less than two minutes remaining.
- The Cardinals scored the next four points, however, to put the game away.
- The Timberwolves went 9-18 from the floor in the fourth (50.0 percent)and started to get going from 3-point range, making 3-7 (42.9 percent).
- Saginaw Valley struggled from the floor in the final quarter, shooting 28.6 percent). The Cardinals did step up at the foul line, making 5-6 attempts (83.3 percent).
