Women's Basketball Defeats Hillsdale 79-70

RECAP: Women's Basketball improves to 2-0 with a 79-70 win over Hillsdale Saturday (November 13).
FIRST QUARTER
- The Timberwolves started fast, jumping out to a 20-4 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the quarter.
- HC responded with nine straight points to get back within seven at 20-13. The NU lead was eventually 22-15 after one.
- Northwood was red-hot to start the game, shooting 62.5 percent in the quarter.
- Hillsdale struggled in the first, going 5-17 overall (29.4 percent).
SECOND QUARTER
- The Chargers continued to chip away at the lead in the second, but were not able to take the lead in the quarter.
- HC got within one twice before the Timberwolves took a 38-35 lead to halftime.
- Hillsdale jumped up to 57.1 percent in the second quarter (8-14), while Northwood fell back to 29.4 percent (5-17). NU also missed all six of their 3-point attempts.
THIRD QUARTER
- Hillsdale kept the momentum from the second quarter into the early parts of the third, scoring the first six point to take the lead 41-38.
- That would prove to be their biggest lead of the night, however, as NU went on top by seven 50-43 with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.
- The Chargers did not go away, as the rallied back to tie the game at 55-55 heading to the fourth quarter.
- Northwood ended the third shooting 33.3 percent (6-18), compared to the Chargers at 43.8 percent (7-16).
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Northwood lead stood at 60-59 when the Timberwolves made the final key push to earn the win.
- NU scored 13 of the next 16 points to go up 73-62 with less than a minute remaining on their way to a 79-70 win.
- Northwood was just 5-18 from the floor in the fourth (27.8 percent), but went 12-15 from the foul line (80.0 percent).
- Hillsdale ended the fourth with the same field goal percentage as Northwood – 27.8 percent (5-18). But the Chargers were just 1-5 from the foul line in the quarter.
