Women's Basketball Drops 80-73 Contest To Michigan Tech

RECAP: Michigan Tech controls the final minutes in defeating Northwood women's basketball 80-73 Saturday afternoon (December 4).
FIRST QUARTER
- The opening quarter was evenly played – each team led by three, which was the largest advantage for either side.
- NU scored the final five points of the first to take a 21-18 lead after one.
- Northwood had a strong opening quarter shooting the ball, finishing at 57.1 percent (8-14). NU was 2-5 from 3-point range and 3-5 from the foul line.
- Michigan Tech was 6-14 from the floor in the first (42.9 percent) while making 3-8 from 3-point range and 3-4 from the foul line.
SECOND QUARTER
- Northwood pushed their lead to as many as six early in the second.
- The Timberwolves led 36-31 with less than two minutes remaining when the Huskies finished with the final seven points to take a 38-36 lead at the break.
- NU fell back to 35.3 percent in the second (6-17). Northwood made 2-6 from three and was 1-1 from the foul line.
- Michigan Tech was 9-19 from the floor (47.4 percent) in the second while making two triples.
THIRD QUARTER
- MTU kept the momentum going early in the third quarter, pushing their lead to as many as seven at 43-36.
- NU responded, coming back to take the lead at 54-53.
- The Timberwolves led by three late before the Huskies connected on a 3-pointer to send the game to the final quarter tied 61-61
- Northwood went back up to 50.0 percent from the floor (7-14) in the third. The Timberwolves also made four triples and was 7-9 from the foul line.
- The Huskies also had a strong offensive quarter in the third, going 9-20 overall (45.0 percent) but was 4-7 from three.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Northwood led 67-66 with under six minutes remaining when the Huskies took over.
- NU was held scoreless for over four minutes, during which MTU scored eight straight points to lead 74-67.
- The Timberwolves got no closer than five the rest of the way.
- Michigan Tech's final margin of eight was the largest of the game.
- Both teams fell back with their shooting in the fourth – NU was just 5-18 overall (27.8 percent).
- Michigan Tech was 5-16 from the floor (31.3 percent) but went 8-10 from the foul line.
- Turnovers were a big part of the final quarter – as NU committed six compared to two for MTU.
