Women's Basketball Defeats Ferris State 70-65

RECAP: Northwood women's basketball extended their winning streak to five with a hard-fought 70-65 win over Ferris State Monday night (January 24).
FIRST QUARTER
- Northwood started the game fast, scoring the first four points before eventually taking a 17-7 lead late in the quarter.
- The NU advantage stood at 17-10 after one.
- Northwood ended the first quarter at 38.9 percent overall, making 7-18 overall. The Timberwolves were 2-7 from the 3-point line and 1-1 from the foul line.
- Ferris State struggled shooting in the first, making 4-15 overall (26.7 percent). FSU was 2-9 from the 3-point line.
SECOND QUARTER
- The teams flipped their shooting in the second, as the Bulldogs got hot early.
- A 17-2 run for FSU gave the Bulldogs a five points lead at 24-19.
- NU bounced back the rest of the quarter, eventually levelling the score at 31-31 at the break.
- The Timberwolves fell back to 22.2 percent shooting in the second, making just 4-18 overall. Northwood was 2-8 from the foul line and 4-4 from the foul line.
- Ferris State jumped up to 53.3 percent in the second, making 8-15 overall. FSU was 4-9 from the 3-point arc and 1-2 from the foul line.
THIRD QUARTER
- Ferris State scored the first points of the second half and held a small lead throughout the third quarter .
- The Bulldogs led by six on three separate occasions and eventually held a 47-42 edge heading to the final quarter.
- The Timberwolves were 4-13 from the floor in the third (30.8 percent). NU was 0-4 from 3-point range and 3-8 from the foul line.
- Ferris State ended the quarter at 33.3 percent, making 5-15 overall. The Bulldogs were 2-6 from 3-point range and 4-7 from the foul line.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The fourth was the key part of the game, as the Timberwolves were the better team to earn the victory.
- NU scored the first seven points of the quarter to go back on top 49-47.
- The score was tied 60-60 with less than a minute to go when Makenzie Todd made a clutch 3-pointer to put the Timberwolves on top for good.
- Northwood used a 10-2 run over just 1:14 to go up 70-62 before winning 70-65.
- The Timberwolves, who out-scored the Bulldogs 28-18 in the fourth, finished the final quarter at 61.5 percent from the floor (8-13). NU was 3-4 from the 3-point line and 9-12 from the foul line.
- Ferris State ended the fourth at 38.9 percent, making 7-18 from the floor. FSU was 1-6 from 3-point range and 3-3 from the foul line.
