Women's Basketball Claims Seven Straight Win - 78-75 At Northern Michigan

RECAP: Northwood women's basketball pushes it winning streak to seven games with a hard-fought 78-75 win at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (January 29).

FIRST QUARTER

  • Northern Michigan was the better team early in the game, leading 10-5 four minutes in.
  • Northwood chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the score at 18-18 late in the first.
  • NMU connected on a 3-pointer to round out the scoring in the opener to lead 21-18 after one.
  • Northern Michigan ended the first making 50.0 percent from the floor, going 7-14 overall. NMU was 2-4 from the 3-point line and 5-5 from the foul line.
  • Northwood ended the opening 10 minutes at 36.8 percent overall (7-19). The Timberwolves were 3-6 from 3-point range and 1-2 from the foul line.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Northwood offense got rolling in the second quarter and took the lead early at 23-21.
  • NMU led 32-29 when the Timberwolves scored seven straight to take a 36-32 lead.
  • Northwood eventually led 41-37 at halftime.
  • NU scored 23 points in the quarter, thanks to going 7-10 from the floor (70.0 percent). NU was 4-7 from 3-point range and 5-6 from the foul line.
  • Northern Michigan ended the second at 40.0 percent (6-15). The Wildcats were 3-10 from the 3-point line and 1-1 from the foul line.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Northwood kept the lead throughout the third quarter.
  • The Timberwolves pushed their advantage to as many as eight (58-50) before taking a 61-56 lead to the fourth quarter.
  • The Timberwolves shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the third, making 7-16 overall. NU was 4-7 from the 3-point line and 2-2 from the foul line.
  • Northern Michigan ended the third making 36.8 percent from the floor (7-19). The Wildcats went 2-7 from 3-point range and 3-3 from the foul line.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Northern Michigan came out fast to start the fourth quarter, scoring the first eight points to go up 64-61.
  • The Timberwolves went back on top for good at 70-69 with 4:33 remaining.
  • NMU was within one at 76-75 with 26 seconds remaining when Northwood's Alli Keyser knocked down two clutch free throws to get the lead back to three at 78-75.
  • The Wildcat's final shot to tie was no good, giving the Timberwolves the win.
  • NU went 5-12 from the floor in the final quarter, good for 41.7 percent overall. The Timberwolves were 2-4 from the 3-point line and 5-6 from the foul line.
  • Northern Michigan had a strong shooting final quarter, finishing at 58.3 percent from the floor (7-12). NMU was 1-3 from the 3-point line and 4-5 from the foul line.

NORTHWOOD NOTES

  • Northwood made 28 3-pointers in their games at Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan during their road trip. That is the most 3-pointers made in a two-game stretch in program history.
  • The Timberwolves won both games on the trip to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. It is the second time in program history Northwood has won both of the games on the trip to MTU and NMU, joining the 2007-08 season.
  • NU's seven-game winning streak is the longest for Northwood in 31 years. The 1990-91 team had a 10-game streak late in the season
