Women's Basketball Win Streak Ends With 81-65 Loss To Wayne State

RECAP: Northwood women's basketball sees its eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 81-65 loss to Wayne State Monday night (February 7).
FIRST QUARTER
- The game was tied 7-7 in the opening quarter when Wayne State went on a run.
- WSU scored 11 of the next 14 points to take an 18-10 lead before ending the frame with an 18-13 advantage.
- Wayne State ended the first shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, going 6-13 overall. WSU was 3-5 from the 3-point line and 3-4 from the foul line.
- The Timberwolves struggled with their shooting in the first, making 5-16 overall (31.3 percent). NU was 1-5 from the 3-point line and 1-2 from the free throw line.
SECOND QUARTER
- WSU's outside shooting allowed the Warriors to add on to their lead in the second quarter.
- At one point, Wayne State stood at 8-12 from beyond the arc in the first half, allowing them to push their advantage to as many as 18 at 41-23.
- NU cut into the lead in the final moments of the half to make the score 41-28 at the break.

THIRD QUARTER
- Northwood scored the first four points of the second half to get within nine, but that proved to be the closest NU would get the rest of the way.
- WSU's lead stayed between 10 and 16 the remainder of the quarter, which ended with the Warriors leading 67-52.
- Northwood picked up their shooting in the third, going 9-18 overall for 50.0 percent. NU was 0-2 from the 3-point line and 6-7 from the foul line.
- Wayne State was even better in the third, jumping up to 61.1 percent (11-18). WS was 3-7 from beyond the 3-point arc and made their only free throw attempt.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Wayne State maintained a comfortable lead throughout the fourth quarter.
- Northwood battled, but the advantage stayed between 13 and 17 in the frame.
- Northwood got off a lot of shots in the final quarter but were unable to convert on those opportunities, finishing 6-24 overall for 25.0 percent. NU was 1-6 from 3-point range and did not get to the foul line.
- Wayne State ended the fourth at 41.7 percent, making 5-12 shots from the floor. WSU was 1-2 from the 3-point line and 3-4 from the foul line.
