RECAP: Led by a career-day from freshman Maeve St. John, Northwood women's basketball rolls to an 88-53 win over Tiffin Thursday night (December 15).

GAME STORY

  • After Tiffin scored the first two points of the game, Northwood connected on a 3-pointer on their first possession. They would maintain that lead the remainder of the first half.
  • NU started slow from the perimeter but got hot down the stretch of the first, eventually going 6-13 from the 3-point line in the first.
  • Northwood went on a 12-0 run in a 1:21 at the end of the quarter, with nine of the points being scored by freshman Maeve St. John.
  • That run gave the Timberwolves a 26-9 lead after one quarter.
  • Tiffin was the better team to start the second quarter, cutting the Northwood lead down to 33-24 with under five minutes remaining in the half.
  • St. John again keyed a Northwood run with a remarkable stretch starting at the 4:33 mark of the second quarter. In a 47 second stretch, St. John scored nine points and created three steals. Her personal 9-0 run got the lead back to 18 at 41-23.
  • The Dragons finished the quarter strong, scoring six of the final eight points to send the game to the break with the score 43-29.
  • Northwood started the second half red-hot, scoring the opening eight points to get to 51-29.
  • The Timberwolves maintained control throughout the third, eventually outscoring the Dragons 27-8 in the quarter. That made the score 70-37 heading to the final quarter.
  • Northwood maintained control in the fourth, not allowing the Dragons to get any closer than 29 in the final quarter. NU led by as many as 38 before winning by 35.

  • NU's 14 3-pointers was one off the school record for 3-pointers made in a game. The current record of 15 was set at Michigan Tech January 27, 2022.
