Women's Golf Places Sixth At California-San Marcos Cougar Invitational

LAKE SAN MARCOS, CALIF. – The Northwood University women's golf team opened the spring portion of their season at the Women's Cougar Invitational Monday and Tuesday (February 29-March 1).

The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Cal-State San Marcos at the St. Mark Club. The course played as a 5,979 yard, par 72.

Northwood shot team scores of 328 and 322 to place sixth overall. Point Loma was the overall winner at 604, followed by host CSU San Marcos at 617. A total of eight teams took part in the event.

The top performer for Northwood was sophomore Monica Gabriele (Missassuga, Ont./St. Joseph), who was competing as an individual so her scores did not count towards the team total. She carded rounds of 82-75 to finish at 157 overall, good for 12th place-tie overall. Her second-round 75 was the best round of her career. Marlies Klekner-Alt (Ottawa, Ont./E'Cole) tied for 15th at 158 (80-78). A total of 50 players took part in the event.

Northwood will take part in the Perry Park Spring Fling in Kentucky March 19-20.
