Marlies Klekner-Alt, Grace Cannon Named To All-GLIAC Women's Golf Team

2015-16 All-GLIAC Women's Golf Teams

BAY CITY, MICH. – A pair of student-athletes from the Northwood University women's golf team were placed on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams, the league announced Sunday (April 24).

Senior Marlies Klekner-Alt (Ottawa, Ont./E'Cole) was placed on the Second Team All-GLIAC, while junior Grace Cannon (Liverpool, England/Range) was named Honorable Mention.

The announcement coincided with the conclusion of the GLIAC Championship. The All-GLIAC teams are based on scoring average in selected tournament throughout the 2015-16 season.

Klekner-Alt turned has turned in one of the finest individual seasons in Northwood history. She currently holds a scoring average of 78.95, which is the third best in school history. Klekner-Alt only trails NU Hall of Famer Jamie Long on that list, who has the top-two individual scoring averages at Northwood (78.44 – 2005-06, 78.78 – 2006-07). This season, Klekner-Alt has registered two top-five, four top-ten and seven top-20 finishes. Against all of the players she has competed with this season, Klekner-Alt has beaten 83.3 percent of them (642-129). It is the second time in Klekner-Alt's career she has earned All-GLIAC honors after being named Honorable Mention last season.

It is also the second time in Cannon's career she has earned All-GLIAC honors, having also been named Honorable Mention a year ago. This season, Cannon ranks second on the team in scoring average at 82.2. She has finished the season strong, averaging 80.0 over her final three competitions while registering three top-20 finishes and one top-10 result.

Northwood will compete at the NCAA Super Regionals May 2-4 in Springfield, Ill.
