Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Win Over Northern Michigan

The Northwood University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Northern Michigan Friday night (October 5).

Northwood improves to 4-5-1 overall, 4-2-1 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan falls to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves had the better of the play in the first half, but the game was scoreless at the break. Northwood finished the opening 45 minutes with an 8-3 advantage in shots.

After a scoreless first half, the second half got off to a fast start. All three goals in the game were scored in the opening 16 minutes. Northwood got on the board first 1:15 into the second on a goal by junior Alyssa Tomassi (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) with the assist going to senior Amanda Watson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay). Less than three minutes later, Tomassi made it 2-0 off a feed from Jessica Langer (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) at the 49:10 mark.

Northern Michigan cut the lead to 2-1 at 61:12, but that would prove to be the final goal of the game.

For the match, Northwood finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots. NMU held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Northwood will host Michigan Tech Sunday (October 7). Match time is set for Noon.
