The Northwood University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 contest to Saginaw Valley State Friday afternoon (October 19).
Northwood is now 6-7-1, 6-4-1in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley improves to 8-2-4 overall, 7-1-3 in the GLIAC.
Neither team mustered much offense in the opening half until SVSU got on the board in the 26th minute. SVSU netted a goal on a great individual effort by Lexie Brisson-Fast to put the Cardinals up. The rest of the half saw both teams get a few chances, but the score remained 1-0 at the break. . The Cardinals held a 5-4 advantage in shots and also earned all four corners in the half.
The defenses continued to be the story in the second half, as the chances were limited for each side. The Timberwolves had a couple of solid opportunities to even the score, but the SVSU defense held to earn the shutout.
For the match, the Cardinals held a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Northwood travels to Tiffin next Friday (October 26). Match time is set for 4 p.m.
