Women's Soccer Plays Concordia To 0-0 Draw

The Northwood University women's soccer team tied Concordia University 0-0 Friday afternoon (September 19) at Dean Field.

The Timberwolves are now 1-2-1 on the season, while the Cardinals are 5-1-2 on the year.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the opening 45 min, the match remained scoreless entering halftime. NU was able to get off seven shots, to Concordia's three. Kayla Trevino (Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton) and Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) were sparks off the bench, each tallying three shots in the opening period. The Cardinals held the advantage in corner kicks (3-2).

With just a few scoring opportunities in the second half, for either team, the match headed into extra time. Neither team was able to capitalize in the first overtime, sending the match into double-overtime. The Timberwolves controlled the tempo much better in the final minutes; however the Cardinals out-shot Northwood (5-3) in the extra 20 min of play.

NU finished with an advantage in shots (15-13), while each team took five corner kicks and registered nine fouls. Sophomore keeper Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) registered the shutout for the Timberwolves with eight saves. Concordia's keeper was also dominant with ten saves.
