Women's Soccer Drops 5-2 Contest At Walsh

CANTON, OHIO - The Northwood University women's soccer team fell 5-2 at Walsh on Sunday afternoon (September 28).

The Timberwolves are now 1-5-1 on the season, 0-3 in the GLIAC. The Cavaliers improve to 5-1-2 on the year, 2-0-1 in the GLIAC.

Walsh put the pressure on early, netting three quick goals in the first 20 min. NU countered with a goal of their own at 38:16 by sophomore Shannon Brown (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer West) on an assist by Sara Lamphere (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich). Brown finished a shot from the right side for her first goal of the season. NU trailed 4-1 in the opening period but remained competitive with nine shots and two corner kicks, to Walsh's ten shots and two corner kicks.

In the 53rd minute, Brown netted her second goal of the match on a free kick from Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc). Walsh countered with a goal off a penalty kick to claim a 5-2 lead. For the match, Walsh held the advantage in shots (15-14) while NU claimed an edge in corner kicks (7-3). Freshman Kayla Trevino (Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton) registered four shots in the match, with two on goal. Carroll tallied three shots and an assist, while sophomore Jessica Esser (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) tallied two shots on goal.
