Women's Soccer Plays Findlay To A 1-1 Draw

FINDLAY, OHIO - The Northwood University women's soccer team played Findlay to a 1-1 draw in Findlay, Ohio on Sunday afternoon (October 26).

The Timberwolves are now 2-10-2 overall, 1-8-1 in the GLIAC. The Oilers are 6-7-2 on the year, 3-5-2 in the GLIAC.

Despite taking six shots on goal, the Timberwolves trailed 1-0 in the opening period. Northwood maintained control of possession for a majority of the half, but was unable to finish. Findlay tallied eight shots in the half to go along with a corner kick, while NU recorded four corner kicks.

The Timberwolves continued to dominate possession throughout the second. Northwood sophomore Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) capitalized on the first scoring opportunity in the second half as she netted the second goal of the season at 51:01. Findlay put six shots on goal in the second period, but was unable to net the go-ahead goal. The matched remained tied at 1-1 through regulation, forcing overtime.

In each overtime period, the Oilers tallied two shots but neither team was able to capitalize. For the match, Flores recorded three shots and a goal. Carly Whitson (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) and Jessica Esser (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) each tallied two shots on goal, while NU keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) registered three saves in extra time and a total of nine saves in the match. While Findlay held an advantage in shots (21-9), Northwood had more corner kick opportunities (7-3).

The Timberwolves return home for the final two games of the season. NU hosts Northern Michigan on Thursday (October 30) before playing Michigan Tech on Saturday (November 1) for Senior Day.
