Women's Soccer Tops Northern Michigan 3-2

MIDLAND, MICH.  - The Northwood University women's soccer team topped Northern Michigan on Friday afternoon (October 30) with a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The Timberwolves are now to 3-10-1 overall, 2-8 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats fall to 7-8-1 on the year, 5-6 in the GLIAC.

Northwood was unable to capitalize in multiple scoring opportunities early in the match, taking eight shots in the opening 25 minutes. Northern Michigan only was able to record two shots in that time. The Timberwolves were able to take a 2-0 lead to halftime off a rebounded shot by Carly Whitson (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) for her second goal of the season at 38:35 and a penalty kick by Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich.) in the 41st minute.

Northern fought back in the second half, netting their first goal at 58:31. NU countered, as Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) capitalized on a beautiful through ball from Whitson to beat the keeper before shooting on an empty net. Flores put the Timberwolves ahead 3-1 at 58:49. The Wildcats put Northwood on their heels, netting their second goal in the 88th minute to go along with four shots in the final five minutes of the match. NU's keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) was able to hold off the Wildcat attack, registering eight saves in the match. Northern out-shot the Timberwolves 18-15 and held an advantage in corner kicks (4-3).

The Timberwolves will host the final home match of the season on Saturday (November 1) against Michigan Tech. Match is set to begin at Noon. Seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match.
