The Northwood University women's soccer team defeated Michigan Tech 1-0 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon (November 1).
The Timberwolves close out the season 4-10-2, 3-8-1 in the GLIAC. The Huskies finish 10-3-2 overall, 8-2-2 in the GLIAC.
Northwood was able to capitalize early on a Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) goal at 15:24. Kayla Trevino (Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton) put a through-ball through to Flores who finished from 15 yards out. Both teams registered four shots in the period, while Northwood's keeper Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) had three saves in the opening half. NU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Timberwolves outlasted the Huskies' 11 shots in the second half to close out the 1-0 win. Cook registered seven saves in the period for a total of 10 in the match. Michigan Tech's offense remained on the attack, not allowing a single Northwood shot in the closing period.
For the match, the Huskies held the advantage in shots (15-4) and corner kicks (3-0). There were a total of 25 fouls in the match.
