Women's Soccer Plays St. Joe's To A 1-1 Draw

FINDLAY, OHIO – The Northwood University women's soccer team played St. Joseph's to a 1-1 draw in the second game of the season, held at Findlay, Ohio on Saturday afternoon (September 5).

The Timberwolves and Pumas are both now 0-1-1 in the early season.

NU netted its first goal of the season just 21 minutes into the match. Junior Jessica Flores (San Diego, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) turned at the top of the box and beat the keeper from the right side. From there, Northwood's offense was over-powered by SJC's attack. St. Joe's registered seven shots in the first half, to NU's four. The Pumas were able to connect on just one of those shots to tie the match 1-1 in the 35th minute.

Neither team was able to finish a shot in the second half, as St. Joseph's held an edge in shots (7-1), forcing overtime. The first extra period saw mostly defense, with just a single shot for either team. Just as in regulation, SJC put on additional pressure in the second overtime with four shots, but again was unable to connect on any of them.

For the match, St. Joe's registered 19 shots (eight on goal). Northwood finished with eight shots (two on goal). SJC finished with an advantage in corner kicks (5-2). Flores finished with Northwood's lone goal, as Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) registered two saves in goal in the first half before Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) came in to pick up six saves of her own throughout the remainder of the match.

Northwood will be back in action on Friday (September 11) at Concordia. Match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
