Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Win At Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Northwood University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win at Lake Erie College Sunday afternoon (Sept. 27). 

The Timberwolves are now 2-4-1 on the year, 2-2 in the GLIAC. The Storm fall to 2-6 overall, 1-3 in the GLIAC.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening period. There were a total of 11 shots and seven corner kicks combined, including five for Northwood. Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) put the Timberwolves on the board at 61:14 off a corner kick from Samantha Medici (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford). Less than ten minutes later, Sara Lamphere (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich) found the back of the net on an assist by Carly Whitson (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) at 70:48 to go ahead 2-0.

For the match, LEC held the advantage in shots (12-11) but NU was able to put six shots on goal to the Storm's three. Northwood registered 11 corner kicks to just four for Lake Erie. Carroll and Lamphere each netted their first goals of the season, while keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkeley) registered three saves in the seventh shutout of her career.

The Timberwolves will be back home on Friday (Oct. 2) as they host Ferris State.
