Women's Soccer Falls 5-1 At No. 7 Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University women's soccer team falls 5-1 to No. 7 Grand Valley State on Sunday afternoon (October 4).

The Timberwolves drop to 4-7 on the year, 2-4 in the GLIAC. The Lakers improve to 10-1 overall, 6-0 in the GLIAC.

GVSU was able to get on the board early, scoring the first goal at 7:58. From there, the Lakers scored four additional goals, each off set pieces. Northwood's Savannah King (Lapeer, Mich. / West) was able to find the back of the net on a shot from the right side just before halftime. After trailing 2-1 at the half, the Timberwolves were unable to answer the three additional goals throughout the second period to take the 5-1 loss.

Senior keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) got the start for the Timberwolves and registered five saves before Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) came in to tally four saves in just under 25 minutes of play. The Lakers put up 25 shots and 11 corner kicks in the match. NU scored on one of two shots and earned just three corner kicks.

Northwood travels to Malone on Sunday (October 11) with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
