Women's Soccer Defeats Malone 1-0 In Double Overtime

CANTON, OHIO – The Northwood University women's soccer team travels to Malone Sunday afternoon (October 11) and earned a 1-0 double overtime win.

The Timberwolves improve to 3-6-1 overall, 3-4 in the GLIAC. The Pioneers fall to 4-9 on the year, 2-6 in the GLIAC.

While neither team was able to score in regulation, Northwood struggled to generate much offense. Malone tallied 14 shots (five of which on goal) in regulation, to just nine for NU (five on goal). The first overtime was very even, as each team got off one shot but once again neither team found the back of the net. It wasn't until the 105th minute that Samantha Medici (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) served in a corner kick that was deflected to Jessica Flores (San Diego, Calif. / Verdugo Hills). Flores beat the keeper for her fourth game-winning goal of her career.

For the match, Flores and Sara Lamphere (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich) each recorded two shots, while Savannah King (Lapeer, Mich. / West) and Jessica Langer (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) added one of their own. Malone held the advantage in both shots (18-11) and corner kicks (6-5). Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) finished with seven saves in her eighth career shutout.

Northwood is set to host a pair of games this weekend, facing Findlay on Friday (October 16) at 2 p.m. and Tiffin on Sunday (October 18) at Noon.
