Women's Soccer Tops Findlay 1-0

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University earns a 1-0 win over Findlay on Friday afternoon (October 16).

The Timberwolves improve to 4-6-1 overall, 4-4 in the GLIAC with the win. The loss puts the Oilers at 1-8-3 on the year, 0-6-2 in the GLIAC.

NU looked to get off to a fast start as Sarah Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt) made sure that the team did so less than five minutes in. After just joining the team last week, the senior scored from just outside the box off of a loose ball deflection that came right to her boot. It was a long time coming for Murdoch, who was out for a majority of last season due to injury. There was room in the top left corner, and the returning senior made sure she made the first shot of the game count.

The goalies were not tested for a sizable amount of time in the match, as the teams traded failed opportunities. Missed opportunities would be aplenty for both teams before this contest finished, with a total of 11 corner kicks between the two teams in the second period, seven for Findlay alone. Findlay registered nine shots in the second half, 14 total for the game, but eventually time ran out.

For the match, the Oilers out-shot Northwood (14-8) and held an advantage in corner kicks (7-6). Keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich. / Berkley) was key to keeping the score at 1-0, as she registered seven saves in the win.

NU will be back in action on Sunday (October 18), taking on Tiffin at Dean Field. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon. Stick around for the double-header, as the men host Ohio Dominican directly after for a 2:30 p.m. start. CLICK HERE for a complete list of promotions throughout the season.
