Women's Soccer Wins At Northern Mich. 3-2

MARQUETTE, MICH. – The Northwood University women's soccer team traveled to Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon (October 25) and earned a 3-2 win.

The Timberwolves improve to 6-7-1 overall, 6-5 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats are now 6-9 overall, 6-5 in the GLIAC.

Northwood wasn't able to get any offense going in the first half, not registering a single shot or corner kick in the opening period. The Timberwolves allowed 11 shots, seven of which on goal, and only trailed 1-0 entering halftime. Keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich.) was able to keep NU in the game, making six saves.

The second half was a different story, as Northwood's Jessica Esser (Utica, Mich. / Eisenhower) put the Timberwolves on the board to tie the match just over two minutes into the half. On an assist by Samantha Medici (Oxford, Mich.), Esser found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Junior Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich.) put NU ahead with her second goal of the year, assisted by from Jessica Flores (San Diego, Calif. / Verdugo Hills) at 61:18. NMU quickly responded, tying the match in the 63rd minute, 2-2. Despite only registering a total of five shots and giving up 17 shots for the game, senior Jessica Langer (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) found Flores for the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.

Shields finished with ten saves on the day, as Flores ended with a goal and assist. Each team finished with five corner kicks.
