Women's Soccer Remains Ninth In United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional Poll

MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood women's soccer team remained in the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Midwest regional rankings this week. The Timberwolves (4-1-3, 3-0-2) stayed at the No. 9 spot in USC's third poll released Tuesday (September 27).

The regional top three remained unchanged with Grand Valley State (7-1-2) No. 1, followed by No. 2 McKendree (7-0-2) and No. 3 Northern Michigan (7-1-2). Northwood's 1-0-1 week began with a 3-2 win over Findlay on Thursday (September 22) followed by a 0-0 draw with No. 10 in the midwest region, Trevecca Nazarene, on Saturday (September 24).

Other GMAC schools in the rankings include No. 4 Ashland and No. 5 Cedarville. 

Northwood's defense has been a cornerstone for the team's success this season. The team's .823 save percentage leads the GMAC so far this season. Senior defender Savannah Wallace and goalkeeper Andrea Everett continue to make it tough on opposing offenses. Wallace also added a penalty goal versus Findlay to aid the offensive effort as well.

The first official NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings will be rolled out later this season. 

Sixty-four teams will qualify for this year's NCAA Tournament, with the top eight teams from the Midwest Region earning a berth. Postseason action of the NCAA tournament will begin on November 10-13 with the first and second rounds on 16 different campuses across the United States. Games will be played at the higher seeds' respective campuses. 

The NCAA selection show is set for November 7. A time for the show has yet to be determined.
