RECAP: The Northwood women's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Storm of Lake Erie on Wednesday (September 13).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was back and forth early on during most of the first half as both teams combined for seven shots through the first 39' of play.
  • Just before half the Timberwolves' Carly Boyd dribbled through two Storm defenders towards the right post. Boyd then shot a cross over a leaping Juliana Paoletti and right to a wide-open Josie Nash near the far-left post. Nash found the back of the net to give NU the 1-0 lead, in the 44'. This was Nash's first goal of the season.
  • Northwood's defense clamped down in the second half, allowing just one LEC shot the rest of the match.
  • Lake Erie looked to try to give one last push at a goal, but Paoletti wanted a score of her own. In the 85', Paoletti was fouled in the box, giving NU a penalty kick opportunity that would most likely ice the game. She capitalized on it to push the lead to two. Her goal was her team-leading fourth of the year.
  • The Timberwolves defense would pitch a shutout for Lindsay Jacob's first career shutout win.
