Women's Soccer Earns Big Win At Home Over (RV) Cedarville, 3-2

RECAP: The Northwood women's soccer team finished their three-game homestand with their third straight victory. The Timberwolves would hold on for a 3-2 over the visiting Yellow Jackets of Cedarville on Saturday (September 16) to move to 2-0 in conference play.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood forced the issue early, earning four of the first five shots of the match. 
  • Following an NU corner kick, chaos broke out in the Cedarville box. The Jackets would fail to get a clean clear out of the box following a team save off a shot by Stephanie O'Keefe. Brooke Honeycutt capitalized on a bobbled ball to give the Timberwolves the 1-0 lead in the 21'.
  • Honeycutt's goal was her first of the season.
  •  Cedarville began to press their offense later in the half. In the 42', the Yellow Jackets earned a free kick that saw three shots fail to go in but result in a corner. CU would score off the corner via a blocked shot in the box and shot back into the net, 1-1.
  • The Timberwolves kept attacking before the half. Josie Nash would score on more chaotic action in the box with 41 seconds left in the half. CU's goalkeeper saved a Mari Jackson shot, but the ball continued rolling as Nash was in perfect position.
  • Coming out of the half, Carly Boyd would extend the Timberwolf lead with a goal off an assist from Honeycutt, 3-1 NU.
  • Cedarville battled back, earning the next three shots. CU would eventually score in the 51', bringing it within one.
  • The Northwood defense held form, fending off numerous Cedarville attacks en route to a 3-2 victory. CU outshot NU 15-4 in the second half.
