RECAP: Women's soccer locked horns with the No. 1 team in the country, Ashland, on Tuesday (October 17) afternoon. A battle for sole possession of first place in the G-MAC standings was on the line. A rough start proved to be the difference in the match as the Timberwolves fell 2-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Eagles came out of the gate pressuring the out-of-sorts Northwood defense. A free kick from 40 yards out on the left side dribbled through a mass of people as the Eagle attacker was in position to score it in the 6'.
  • Ashland's offense cracked the NU's defense again moments later. Their second corner opportunity in the first eight minutes resulted in another scrappy goal. The deflected corner landed at the feet of an open AU attacker to extend their lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes in.
  • Northwood played from behind for most of the game as the Eagle pressure resulted in an 8-0 corner opportunity advantage in the first half.
  • NU's offense continued to fight as possession flipped for the majority of the second half. The Timberwolves saw a handful of chances to manufacture open shots but were unable to put anything on target. Northwood outshot AU 13-3 in the second half.
  • Ashland's defense proved to be too much as Northwood finished scoreless for the first time this season. AU has allowed just three goals this entire season.
