Women's Soccer Debuts At No. 5 In Initial NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings

MIDLAND, MICH. - The 2023 Great Midwest regular season champions, Northwood women's soccer (13-3-2, 12-1-1 G-MAC), appeared at No. 5 in the initial 2023 NCAA DII Midwest regional rankings released Wednesday (November 1). This is the highest the Timberwolves have appeared in Midwest regional rankings in program history.

Northwood was one of four teams from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in the rankings. Others include No. 1 Ashland (14-0-3), No. 6 Cedarville (13-3-1), and No. 10 Findlay (9-4-4). No. 2 Northern Michigan (12-1-4) and No. 3 Grand Valley St. (9-2-6) round out the top three.

For the conference tournament, the Northwood women's soccer team is set to host the opening round of the G-MAC women's soccer tournament for the second consecutive year. This season, women's soccer captured the program's first-ever conference regular season championship en route to being the year's No. 1 overall seed.

No. 1 Northwood (13-3-2, 12-1-1 G-MAC) will face No. 8 seed Ohio Dominican (5-7-6, 4-6-4 G-MAC) at Dean Field at noon in the quarterfinals on Saturday (November 4). The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of No. 4 seed Findlay and No. 5 Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday (November 9).

56 teams will qualify for this year's NCAA Tournament, with the top eight teams from the Midwest Region earning a berth. Postseason action of the NCAA tournament will begin on November 16-19 with the first and second rounds on 16 different campuses across the United States.

Teams will compete in three- or four-team sites in the first and second rounds. The two top-seeded teams in each region shall be offered the opportunity to host, provided minimum site selection criteria are met and a bid has been submitted.

The NCAA selection show is set for Monday, November 13 at 6:30 PM ET on NCAA.com.
