Women's Tennis Earns 8-1 Victory Over Davis & Elkins
The Northwood University women's tennis team improved to 21-0 on the season with an 8-1 win over Davis & Elkins Wednesday afternoon (March 26) in the final match at Hilton Head, S.C.
The Colonels fall to 5-3 with the loss.
The Timberwolves came out strong in doubles, winning all three doubles competition dropping just two sets. The freshman team of Anna Aniskina (Odesa, Ukraine)/Anastasiia Kazub (Ozery, Russia) remain unbeaten on the season after earning their 18th victory 8-0. In singles, Darina Berkova (Ceske Budejovic, Czech Republic) continues to be effective in the top spot, earning her 16th win without dropping a single set. Junior Anastasia Puchkina (Seversk, Russia) remains successful in the second position, earning her 11th win of the season 6-3, 6-1. Maria Avksenenko (St. Petersburg, Russia) is now 8-0 in the No. 6 position, 9-0 overall, after earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory today. Senior Inesa Asatryan (Yaroslavl, Russia) finishes the season 11-3 at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-4 win. In the No. 5 spot, Margarita Asatryan (Yaroslavl, Russia) earned a 6-2, 6-1 to finish 8-0 in that position and 14-1 overall.
Northwood's next competition is scheduled to be the NCAA Regionals on May 3.
