Women's Tennis Drops 5-4 Match At Wayne State

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University women's tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 match at Wayne State Wednesday afternoon (October 8).

The contest featured the final two unbeaten teams in the GLIAC. Northwood falls to 8-1 overall and in the conference. Wayne State is now 10-0 overall and in the GLIAC.

Northwood got off to a good start in doubles, winning two of the three matches. After the Warriors won the No. 1 match, the Timberwolves posted an 8-6 win at the No. 2 position and a 9-8 (4) victory at the No. 3 slot.

The Timberwolves played well at the start of singles as well, winning the first set in four of the six matches. Both teams won one straight-set match to make the score 3-2, but WSU was the better team when the matches got extended to three sets.  Wayne State two of the three matches that went the full three sets, both of which the Timberwolves won the first set in. NU also missed out on another point when Northwood was forced to retire in the No. 1 singles match.

Oleisa Riabchuk and Anastasiia Kazub each went 2-0 on the day to lead the way for the Timberwolves.

Northwood will travel to Hillsdale Friday (October 10). First serve is set for 1 p.m.
