Women's Tennis Downs Saginaw Valley 7-2

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's tennis team defeated Saginaw Valley State 7-2 at the Midland Community Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon (October 18).

NU earned three wins in doubles, as the team of Anna Aniskina (Odesa, Ukraine) and Margarita Asatryan (Yaroslavl, Russia) recorded an 8-1 win at the No. 2 position. Freshman Oleisa Riabchuk (Kaluga, Russia) and sophomore Anastasiia Kazub (Ozery, Russia) took the No. 3 spot with an 8-2 win, while Anastasia Puchkina (Seversk, Russia) and Maria Avksenenko (St. Petersburg, Russia) claimed an 8-5 victory as the top doubles.

Riabchuk picked up a win at the No. 2 singles position, dropping just two games (6-2, 6-0). In the No. 3 position, Kazub didn't lose a single game for a (6-0, 6-0) win. Asatryan picked up a win at the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-1 and Avksenenko finished with a 6-3, 6-4 victory to close out the match. The Timberwolves two losses came due to retirement.

Northwood will host Grand Valley State tomorrow at the Midland Community Tennis Center for the final regular season match of the season. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
