Women's Tennis Sweeps Findlay 9-0

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 9-0 sweep over Findlay Sunday afternoon (September 6).

NU is also 2-0 in the GLIAC. Findlay falls to 0-2 overall and in the GLIAC.

Northwood picked up a pair of quick wins at doubles thanks to the No. 1 team of Carol Arnez-Mercado/Anna Aniskina and the No. 3 team of Olesia Riabchuk/Anastasiia Kazub, who combined to drop just two games in two matches. The duo of Alisa Reshetnikova/Maria Avksenenko then finished off the sweep of the doubles matches with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Timberwolves continued their strong play in singles, winning the bottom five matches in straight sets. NU dropped eight games in the 12 sets completed in the bottom five matches. Arnez-Mercado then won a super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to finish off the victory.

For the day, Arnez-Mercado, Reshtnikova, Riabchuk, Kazub and Anna Aniskina all went 2-0. Avksenenko and Tetyana Pavych both went 1-0.

Northwood will travel to Grand Valley State Sunday (Sept. 13). That match will begin at 1 p.m.
