Women's Tennis Advances To GLIAC Tournament Final With 5-2 Win Over Wayne State

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's tennis team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament finals with a 5-2 win over Wayne State Saturday afternoon (October 24).

Northwood, the No. 2 seed, is now 12-1 overall with the win. Wayne State, the third-seed, falls to 10-4.

The Timberwolves picked up two wins in doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles. The matches were tight – NU won 8-6 at the No. 2 slot and 9-7 at the No. 3 position while WSU won the No. 1 match in a tiebreaker 9-8.

Northwood then won three of the four singles matches completed to earn the win. The Timberwovles won at No. 3, No. 4 and at No. 6 singles. The Warriors earned their second point at the No. 1 slot.

On the day, Olesia Ribchuk and Anastasiia Kazub each went 2-0 for the Timberwolves.

Northwood will now face top-seeded Grand Valley State in the championship match Sunday morning (October 25). First serve is set for 8:15 a.m.
