Women's Tennis Claims 5-4 Win Over Chowan

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 19 Northwood University women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 win over Chowan Friday (March 11).

Northwood is now 16-2 on the season. Chowan falls to 10-3 with the loss.

The Timberwolves were once again short-handed for the match, as injuries forced NU to play short a player for the third-straight contest. That gave Chowan forfeit victories over Northwood at the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles position.

The two teams split the two doubles matches contested, with Northwood winning at No. 1 doubles and Chowan winning at the No. 2 slot to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Northwood responded to the deficit with strong play in singles. The Timberwolves posted four straight-set victories in singles, giving NU the overall victory.

On the day, Anastasiia Zazub and Maria Avksenenko each went 2-0 to lead the way for Northwood.

The Timberwolves have now completed their regular season. Northwood will return to action in the NCAA Tournament in May.
