Women's Tennis Falls To Grand Valley State 5-1 In NCAA Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Northwood University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 loss Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (May 7) in the opening round of the NCAA Tennis Tournament.
Northwood, the No. 4 seed in the Midwest region, ends its season 17-4 overall. Fifth-seeded Grand Valley State advances to the second round at 24-6.
The Lakers took two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. Northwood's duo of Carol Arnez-Mercado and Anna Aniskina earned NU's lone win, picking up an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 position.
GVSU was the better team in singles, winning three matches in straight-sets to clinch the overall victory.
The Lakers now advance to the second round where they will face top-seeded Drury, who hosted today's NU/GVSU match.
